Handyman services in Newmarket and York Region
The jobs that are too small for a renovation company to return your call about, and too fiddly to be worth your Saturday. A shelf that needs anchoring into studs, a door that has dropped on its hinges, four things on a list that have been there since spring.
What actually counts as a handyman job
Roughly: anything that takes one skilled person somewhere between twenty minutes and a full day, and does not legally require a licensed trade. Hanging mirrors, TVs and heavy shelving into proper blocking. Doors that stick, latch badly or will not stay open. Cabinet hinges and drawer runners. Toilet seats, taps, shower heads and vanity fixtures. Baseboard, quarter round and trim repairs. Small drywall patches and touch-up paint. Weatherstripping and thresholds. Flat-pack furniture that came with the wrong instructions.
If you are unsure whether your job qualifies, the fastest answer is a phone call. We will tell you honestly if it is a handyman visit, a licensed trade, or something you can do yourself in ten minutes.
Bring the whole list, not just the one thing
The expensive part of a small job is not the work, it is the travel and setup. Getting a van, tools and a person to your door in Newmarket costs the same whether we fix one thing or nine. So the single best way to get value out of us is to walk the house first and write everything down, including the things you stopped noticing years ago.
Most households have somewhere between six and fifteen small defects at any time. A well-organised list usually clears in one visit for a fraction of what those jobs would cost booked one at a time.
How we price small work
Small jobs are quoted before we start, the same as large ones. For a list, we will usually give you a figure for the visit rather than itemising every hinge, because itemising costs more in admin than it saves you. Materials are either supplied by you or picked up by us and passed through at cost with the receipt.
If something on the list turns out to be bigger than it looked, which happens most often with water damage and anything behind tile, we stop and tell you before spending your money.
What we will not do without a licensed trade
Gas appliances and gas lines. Main electrical panel work. HVAC. Structural alterations. Anything that needs an ESA or a plumbing permit in its own right.
We are not going to quietly do that work and hope nobody checks. We bring in the licensed trade, coordinate them, and stay responsible for the job as a whole. That is slower to say on the phone than "yes we do everything", and it is the reason our work still passes inspection years later.
Questions we get asked
Is there a minimum charge?
Yes, there is a minimum visit charge, because getting a van and a person to your door has a fixed cost regardless of the job. You will be told what it is on the phone before you book. This is exactly why we encourage you to save up a list rather than call us out for one loose handle.
Can you do a whole list of small jobs in one visit?
That is the ideal way to use us. Send the list when you call, or photograph each item and text it over. We will work out whether it is a half day or a full day, tell you the figure before we come, and work through the list in order of what matters most to you.
Do I need to be home while you work?
For the first visit it helps, so we can walk the list together and agree what good looks like. After that, plenty of our regulars leave a key or a lockbox code. We will send photos as jobs are completed if you are at work.
Do you supply the materials?
Either way. If you have already bought the tap or the blind, we will fit it. If you would rather we sourced it, we pick it up and pass the cost through with the receipt, with no markup games.
What areas do you cover for small jobs?
Newmarket, Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Richmond Hill, King City, Stouffville and Georgina are routine. Markham, Vaughan and Toronto are fine too, though for a genuinely tiny single job that far out we may suggest bundling it with more of your list to make the trip worth your money.
